Description

Students will complete a 3 part interview activity to review President Hayes' time in office. The first part has 6 academic questions to help students review Hayes' presidency. In the second part of the activity students "interview" Hayes right after his inauguration (5 questions and answers), in the third part they conduct his last interview on his deathbed (5 questions and answers), and the final task is a bonus creative opportunity. An answer key is included where appropriate and this would work for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Explain the connection between President Hayes and the Compromise of 1877.
--Briefly describe the causes of the Railroad Strike of 1877 and explain Hayes’ role in it. Was his role within the bounds of the Executive Office, why or why not?
--Identify and explain which aspect of Hayes’ historical context and presidency this political cartoon most relates to and how/why.
--What do you think will be your biggest challenge in achieving your goals? --If you had served a second term, what top 3 policies you would have pursued and why? Could it have been more successful than your first term and why?
--Do you have any regrets from your time in office?
