Description

Students will learn more about presidential debates, the topics covered, and the policies/stances of both parties by answering 12 questions, completing a graphic organizer, and completing 3 creative tasks. The graphic organizer has students identify the candidate's main/key points for each topic, as well as determining each topic's "winner." Three questions should be answered before watching the debate, the rest should be completed during and after the debate. The graphic organizer and questions can be used for any presidential/vice presidential debate.

Sample questions/tasks include:
--Which topic had the most time devoted to it and why do you think that was the case?
--Explain what accounts for the most significant differences between the candidates on the issues covered (for example, if one wants high tariffs and one wants low tariffs, why is that?)
--Who do you think “won” the overall debate and why? Who do you think the news outlets will say “won” the debate and why?
--Had you been able to ask questions at the debate, or if you were a reporter speaking to the candidates after the fact, what are 3 questions you would have liked to ask each candidate and why?
