Description
Students will delve into the history of President’s Day. The lesson begins with students exploring the myths of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln by playing man or myth (fact or fiction). Pairs will examine each statement about Washington and Lincoln. Students will use Man or Myth cards to vote for each statement. The instructor will reveal the answer to each man or myth statement. Next, students complete a sorting activity to determine which facts belong to each president. The class debriefs the sort to identify similarities and differences. Finally, students read background information about the History of President’s Day and complete reading questions. To conclude the activity, students will determine the focus of President’s Day and compose an argumentative essay persuading the class of their opinion.
