Print, Cut, Go!
I love task cards! These 32 cards a great way for your students to get hands on experience with estimating the value of square roots. The square roots ranges from 2 to 135. There are a variety of ways to use these cards:
- Play Scoot or Racecar. Difference between Scoot and Racecar is that in Scoot, the students move from the current desk to the next desk to access the next card and in Race car, the students pass the cards to the next student when you give them the verbal cue of “Vroom! Vroom!” Students then write they answer down the card’s answer on their papers until the class has rotated through all the cards. This approach has been highly successful in my middle school classes, including with my special needs and gifted students. I did not include an answer sheet as I cannot know how many kids you have in your class. I would just have students number a page with the number of cards you are using.
- Use as flashcards. To convert these into flashcards, write the answer on the back. This can be used by pairs of students or in small groups. This would be a good activity for a co-teacher who needs to work with small groups.
- Create a station. Give students a paperclip and have them place it over the correct answer. Then you can check them before they transition to the next station.
Don’t forget the included exit tickets. I placed 4 to a page to save paper.
