Description
In this activity students play the part of the Puritan General Court deciding on several cases of people in their tight-knit religious community who had allegedly broken the law and deserved to be punished. They must identify the specific crime they committed; the general law to be applied; and what punishment seemed most fitting. Included are a background essay on Puritan crime and punishment; ten hypnotical cases for students to either analyze or role-play; and summary discussion questions.
