Description

I use this set of lessons as part of diversity in science and growth mindset booster lessons. Includes 7 different mini poster templates and several different bulletin board headings so you can customize how you display the final product. I review with my class the importance of a growth mindset as a scientist. I explain Nobel Prize winning scientists represent scientific work that has a major impact on how we understand the natural world and was of major benefit to humankind. Page 7 has additional background information about the Nobel Prize in science (chemistry, physics, and medicine) that you can use to customize your lesson. I refer to my Growth Mindset in Science Poster #1 and Growth Mindset in Science Poster #2

Give students the Sketch Notes Handout “How do you know a Scientist has a growth mindset?” and then assign them to go to the Nobel Prize website and pick a winner to research. As they read the biography of the scientist students are to look for examples of that scientist using a growth mindset to accomplish great things in science.

Students can research Nobel Prize Winners in Science at https://www.nobelprize.org/. Or by selecting names from the lists of winners from 1975-2019 included with this product and researching the scientists directly.

Last time I checked (Dec, 2019) the Nobel Prize organization had created a page to highlight the 17 Women who have won the award at https://www.nobelprize.org/womenwhochangedscience/ This page is a powerful starting point for research into the growth mindset of these scientists. In the biographies there are examples of obstacles they faced and how they dealt with the challenges and still were successful in science.

The completed and colored sketch note sheets can be used for a bulletin board display or as part of a student work portfolio.
