Description
Students will read and analyze a one page background on Stalin's policy of collectivization in the Soviet Union during the 1930s, 3 primary sources, and 6 images by answering 16 questions. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--In what way(s) could individual farms have been a threat to Stalin’s position of power (or other higher-ups)?
--Do you think peasants resisted collectivization effectively, why or why not?
--Does the Army Officer agree with the orders he has been given to employ brutal force against peasants? Cite evidence from the text to support your answer.
--How does Stalin justify his choice for implementing collective farms? Is his argument persuasive (not right or wrong, but persuasive), why or why not?
--Explain why there are different posters to convey a similar message. Which poster do you think would have been most persuasive to a Soviet citizen in the 1930s and why?
