Description

Target learning:

  • I can see that matter has measurable physical properties
  • I can classify matter as a solid, liquid, and gas

 Materials

Will have to build a model of molecules in a bottle

  • Two liter bottle
  • Some Styrofoam balls (Can be bought at any craft store)

You can make either a student group set or just one for Demo use.

This is a great way to introduce solids, liquids, and gases. Students will be able to see that the amount of matter does not change and only the movement and distance between the molecules will changes. They will also be able to see that adding energy can change solid to liquid to gas and taking away energy can change gas to liquid to solid. Student can write and draw what is going on with the model on their lab sheet. The lab sheet is fold-able and can be glued into their science spiral or notebook.
