The Analects of Confucius Primary Source Reading Activity - Print & Digital
Ancient China was heavily influenced by the teachings of Confucius, who focused on moral values and ethics. This is a great resource to add to your unit on Confucianism, the Han Dynasty, or Ancient China.
This resource comes as a Google Drive resource. When you purchase this product, you will be directed to download a PDF of the Terms of Use. The link to the Google Drive folder, along with directions on how to make copies and print the material, will be provided. By purchasing this product, you recognize that you (and your students should you chose the digital option) must have access to a Google account.
What is included in this activity? ⇣⇣⇣⇣⇣⇣
- Students will read a brief introduction that reviews who Confucius was, what Confucianism is, and its impact on China.
- Part A: Students will read 8 sayings from The Analects of Confucius. They will summarize the main idea of each passage in their own words.
- Part B: Students will choose which saying was the most impactful to them and explain why. They will then explain the impact the sayings had on Ancient China.
- Teacher Answer Key is included (not pictured in preview)
This worksheet is only two pages long, making it perfect to print front and back in order to save paper! Best of yet, this resource is editable so you can adapt it for your student's needs.
Suggestions for how to use this resource:
- Go over Part A as a class and have students complete Part B independently or with partners
- Partner activity
- Homework assignment
For those of you who are teaching this with younger grades, I recommend completing the first one or two sayings as a class before either having students complete the activity independently or in pairs.
