Description

This is a fun project over the Declaration of Independence, where your students become the modern day Thomas Jefferson! They get to choose how they want to Declare Independence from King George III and Great Britain. They can text him, email him, or create a video to "Facetime" him. This lesson allows your students to be really creative. I am always amazed at what my students create. In addition to the templates for the project, there is a two page handout that explains the basics of the Declaration of Independence and the four parts. Your students will walk away from this project with a basic knowledge of the key parts of the document.

I love any project where students get excited about sharing their work with others.

Included in the file are handouts that your students can write the breakup letters, or there is a link to a Google Slides Presentation where the students can type their letters out. This is what I use primary and the students enjoy it a lot more!

For the "Facetime" option, your students will need to record on their own device and then add it to the Google Slides. Your students will enjoy the image of King George III on the phone too. :)
