The Geography of Italy/Rome – Lesson and Activity:
The main purpose of this lesson is to have students describe various geographic and climate features of Italy and how they impacted the Romans.

Activity:
For the Activity there are 2 different parts/options depending on what the instructor wants to focus on.
 
Activity Option 1 - Map Analysis:
Student are given 4 maps of the Italian Peninsula. Maps include a physical, population, climate and land use map. Students are given a question sheet where they must analyze these maps and find relationships between them. For example, they might look at the physical map and the population map and determine how physical features influence population of different areas.
 
Activity Option 2 – Reading and Graphic Organizer
Students are given an 860-word reading on the Geography of Rome/Italy and the impacts that these features had on the Romans. Using the graphic organizer provided, students are asked to describe the different features of the Italian Peninsula and how they influenced Roman civilization.
 
Two different organizers are provided for this activity. One is a box chart and the other is designed around a map of Italy
