Description

Students will read 11 quotes about the Gilded Age from various point of view and covering different topics (Robber Barons, Native Americans, immigrants, political corruption, transportation, etc), analyze 9 images, answer 23 questions, and respond to up to 5 extension/creative tasks. Some of the tasks include writing quotes from the points of view of a president, Robber Baron, Native American, and immigrant, creating advertisements and museum exhibits, writing letters to the editor, and more! This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--In what way does this quote reflect the financial panic of the second half of the Gilded Age?
--Citing evidence from the text, does Teddy Roosevelt agree with patronage?
--How does this quote reflect the breadth of qualities and characteristics of the Gilded Age?
--Placing Carnegie in his historical context, and given his sentiments above, what might he have re-titled the Gilded Age given the opportunity?
--Why does Sheridan believe that such violence was a result of history?
--Does Sumner agree or disagree with Carnegie and why?
