Description
Students will read and analyze excerpts from speeches on the Korean War by President Truman (1950) and General MacArthur (1951) by answering 25 questions. They will then respond to 5 overarching and comparison questions and a creative task. The answers are included where appropriate and this would work for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--Citing evidence from the text, where would a reference of sovereignty, or self-determination be most appropriate in the first 3 paragraphs of Truman’s excerpt and why?
--Does Ridgeway support or oppose appeasement and why?
--Explain what Truman believes is being proven in the hard fighting.
--In what way could the communist defeat in Korea have been a turning point in achieving peace?
--Explain the meaning of the phrase, “any partisan cause.”
--Did MacArthur support sending US troops into China, why or why not?
--Describe the historical context MacArthur references regarding appeasement.
--Summarize the main point of the 4th paragraph.
--If you could title each speech, what would you choose and why?
