The Long Way Westward Digital Novel Study in Google Slides

Whether your students are in the classroom or doing distance learning, this interactive novel study of The Long Way Westward can help. When I lead a book study with students, my two main goals are to 1. Give them opportunities to think and discuss, as well as 2. Help them love literature. This digital notebook gives students the chance to think about the story and express themselves by doing more than recalling factual details. They will think about characters, motivations, and plot development. They will also have opportunities to interpret maps and photos and rate the book at the end. If you are looking for activities that stress quizzing students every few pages, this is NOT the product you are looking for. (See #2 above.) This product is designed to help students understand and enjoy good literature.

This digital notebook is completely paperless, since students manipulate movable pieces or type answers directly into the digital notebook. It also includes links to a video about idioms and several short videos about other immigration picture books. It can be used by students as they independently read The Long Way Westward at home or at school, or it can be used in the classroom as a guided reading experience for a literature group or the entire class. There are detailed suggested lesson plans, including questions to lead discussions and specific pages students should read each day. A detailed answer key is also included. For open-ended questions, various possible answers are offered. There is also an instruction sheet to make assigning this product in Google Classroom easy.
