The Rise and Fall of the Islamic Empire Activity Video Guide Analysis

Students will watch and analyze an almost 5 minute video on the rise and fall of the Islamic Empire (touching on Muhammad, the Abbasids, the Umayyads, and the fall of Baghdad) by answering 24 questions and completing an extension task. The answers are included where appropriate and the video is from TedEd.  

Sample questions include:
--What was Medina?
--Explain the Umayyad’s connection to Muhammad.
--How did the Abbasids say they were more legitimate to rule?
--What made favoritism and/or corruption more likely?
--Compare and contrast your thoughts about the meaning of the quote from question 1 with the actual historical events.
