Description
Students will read and analyze an account of Theodore Roosevelt, the Rough Riders, and their charge up San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War by answering 14 questions and completing up to 5 creative tasks (museum exhibit, a Medal of Honor nomination, a memorial plaque/monument, a mascot for the Rough Riders, and more).
The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions inclue:
--Why do you think Teddy Roosevelt resigned from his Assistant Secretary position and volunteered to fight in Cuba?
--Compare and contrast the images described of Roosevelt and Hawkins. Who would you have followed into battle and why?
--Create an image to illustrate the meaning of the phrase, "a triumph of bulldog courage."
-- Why could someone describe it as “not heroic?”
--Why do you think the Rough Riders are more frequently associated with charging San Juan Hill than their roles in the Battle of Las Guasimas or the Siege of Santiago?
