SCIENCE:

Third Grade Interactive Learning Science Activities Printable and Digital

6 Activities that incorproate 3rd grade NGSS Standards.

 

Activity 1, 2, 3 and 4 are all about direction words and animal tracking. The students will create a treasure map for a family member to follow based on their direction sentences, checkout a real live website that tracks ocean animals and so much more!

Activity 5 and 6 are weather related where the students will become a meterologist and also research a city of their choice making a bar graph and answering graphing questions!

 

Activity 5 & 6: Weather 3-ESS2-1 Earth's Systems Represent data in tables and graphical displays to describe typical weather conditions expected during a particular season. 3-ESS2-2 Earth's Systems Obtain and combine information to describe climates in different regions of the world.

Severe Weather Project (Distance and In Class Learning)

The students will enjoy researching about Thunderstorms, Blizzards, Drought, Tornadoes and Hurricanes through this weather project. Rubric provided for grading for you to choose point allocations.

Building and Planning A Garden (Distance and In Class Learning)

Challenge your students with this fun and interactive project of building a garden! The student's will use area and perimeter to figure out how big their garden will be and how many plants they can buy. Then they will use a real life farm's site to pick their plants and figure out cost for plants and for mulch. Finally they will calculate how much water they will need to water their plants!! Word problems, area, perimeter, multiplication, addition, subtraction and more!!

Fraction Pizza Project (Distance Learning/ E learning)

Pizza Math Project that includes: Creating fractions, comparing fractions, fraction word problems, creating word problems, elapsed time, telling time and graphing!

 

If your students find themselves ordering take out pizza during this time have them keep the box and do the project with it! Makes it more realistic and definitely more engaging and fun!

The week will take the students through reading/listening to/watching a classic fairytale and adaptation of same fairytale, comparing/contrasting, story mountains, lesson learned and drafting their own adaptation!

Week 2 of Literacy Activities:

~This pack includes 5 days of activities that include Reading and Writing activities to match up with Standards we have already taught during 3rd grade thus far. The week will take the students through reading/listening to Grace for President by Kelly DiPucchio. The student's will analyze the main character's, compare/contrast them with evidence from the text and finally making a text to self connection!

Week 3 of Literacy activities:

~This pack includes 5 days of activities that include Reading and Writing activities to match up with Standards we have already taught during 3rd grade thus far. The week will take the students through reading/listening to a narrative nonfiction book about Pierre the Penguin and a nonfiction video about Penguins. The student's will analyze the vocabulary, summarize the text and synthesize the two infformational texts/videos to figure out the main idea/subtopic.

Week 4 of Literacy Activities:

~This pack includes 5 days of activities that include Reading and Writing activities to match up with Standards we have already taught during 3rd grade thus far. The week will take the students through watching their favorite show or movie and summarizing it then recording themselves doing a review of it! Then they will do something similiar with a book of their choice (or links of youtube read alouds provided if they don't have access to books) where they will review the book and then choose a character to do a character map on and anayzing the lesson of the story!

 

Week 5 of Literacy Activities:

Previewing nonfiction text by looking at the meaning of the word PREVIEW, making predictions about the text and triggering prior knowedge on the topic. Nonfiction text feature focus with a scavenger hunt in a RAZ KIDS text. Comprehension Questions specific to text. Boxes and bullets for two sections of table of contents of the text.

 

Fiction/Nonfiction Choice Board Projects:

NONFICTION and FICTION choice boards!

 

1.These resources/activities can be used paper pencil or digitally on Google with a choice board.

2.Students can choose a menu item to answer to for the book they are reading

3.These can be used during independent reading to show understanding of the text, periodically throughout a novel you are reading to a class, for Daily 5 or Reader’s workshop stations, for early finishers and much more!

4.If you go paper pencil with it-print out the menu for all students to have and then have abundance of copies of each resource for students to grab (OR you can give the students all of the copies straight out in a Reading Restaurant Menu Binder.

5.Keep extra copies of the rubrics as well for each project.

6.In order to turn it in they need to staple or paper clip their project to correct rubric and turn it in.

7.If students are completing online they will have a digital choice board to use that will direct them to the activity and rubric so when they turn it into the teacher its all together!

8.Give each student the menu so they can cross off ones they have already done as they need to do all of them at some point.

9.These can be kept to show understanding of standards for data binders, conferences to show parents student work, standard based learning/reporting.

10.You can either have the students complete ALL of them in a period of time or have them choose one appetizer, one main dish and one dessert to do for the whole “project:”.

11.There is a rubric that is the same that you will use for ALL of the projects to make it less confused and easier on the grader.
