Description
In this hands-on, interactive activity students will become more familiar with the information found in the US Constitution, specifically Articles 1-3 (the 3 Branches of Government), as they examine and analyze 8 political cartoons in a Gallery Walk. A Gallery Walk is an activity in which your students will examine museum-like exhibits that you place around the classroom in order to complete their assignment. It is a fun way to present the information and it gets your class up and moving in an organized way- a fun break from lecture!
Specifically, students will:
1) View an online Infographic (Constitution Periodic Table) and complete the corresponding questions/discussion as a WARM-UP. (optional).
2) View a Practice Political Cartoon- and will analyze it during a class discussion, using the prompts provided, to practice the process of understanding the message of a political cartoon.
3) Be placed into pairs/small groups to participate in the Gallery Walk Activity. Students will analyze 8 different political cartoons and discuss the meaning of the cartoon as well as identify which Article/Section of the Constitution the political cartoon represents by matching the correct ANSWER CARD to each exhibit (2 versions of the answer cards- one easier, one more difficult are included) Students will then create a title/caption for each cartoon and a saying/thought for one of the characters in the cartoon that illustrates their understanding.
7) Complete an EXIT CARD activity in which they create their own political cartoon following the detailed directions.
**All exhibits, student worksheets, teacher directions and Exit Card materials are INCLUDED!
