Description
In this Article I: Legislative Branch class simulation, your students will walk through the steps of How a bill becomes a law as they participate in a fun, hands-on interactive activity!
Specifically, your students will:
1) Be assigned a state (district) to represent in the House of Representatives and will be introduced to a new bill.
2) Examine "data" about their district, messages from constituents, media coverage about the bill, etc. to help them decide how to vote on the bill. (A guided brainstorming sheet is provided to help students think about the factors affecting a Congress members vote)
3) Participate in House floor debate regarding the bill.
4) Vote on the bill, and will learn what happens after a YES or NO vote in the House on their bill.
5) Complete a creative assessment activity in which they create a comic strip to illustrate the process for how a bill becomes a law using what they have learned. (EXIT CARD)
