This 3 page packet will give your students everything they need to complete a Document Based Warm-up/Introductory Activity.

In this activity your students will examine carefully selected EXCERPTS from the Magna Carta, Petition of Right and English Bill of Rights to fill in a chart and be able to answer the following questions:

“What rights did the English people demand from their monarchs?

What are some similarities in the types of rights and demands that the English people are requesting in these documents?

Do you think the English people who were living in the New World (English Colonies) expected these same rights? Why or Why Not?

Where do you see evidence of these rights in the US?”

Excellent 20 minute intro activity that helps students understand the colonists background- perfect lead in to a lesson on the formation of US Government following the Revolutionary War.
