Description
Great Depression Simulation Overview: In this 39 slide (power-point and handouts) simulation, students will experience the Roaring 20’s and the Depressing 30’s. They will understand the financial transition that families experienced during this time in history. Students will pretend that they are young adults living through the 20’s and 30’s and will be forced to make decisions for their families based upon the unforeseen events and choices that they encounter.
The goal of the simulation is to maintain a budget and pay for all of life’s necessities in spite of the pit falls of the era. Some of these events that students will encounter include: stock market boom and bust, the risks of installment shopping, the move to a Hooverville, a visit to a Soup Kitchen, the closure of their bank, the Dust Bowl, working for the W.P.A (Works Progress Administration)the C.C.C and MORE! Students will experience life in the 20’s and 30’s in a fun, hands-on and memorable activity!
After the simulation, students will reflect on their experience in a short EXIT CARD/Assessment task. All power-point slides, handouts, props, student worksheets and STEP-BY-STEP Teacher Directions are included.
