Description
Essential Question: "What were the realities of Manifest Destiny and Westward Expansion? Do all sources agree on the realities of moving west?"
This packet contains everything your students need to practice the historical skill of corroboration. When students corroborate they build an interpretation of events using information from multiple perspectives; identifying any inconsistencies. Your students will complete an activity that asks them to understand the following:
Students Will:
1) Define Manifest Destiny.
2) Examine John Gast's painting "American Progress" and several other primary source accounts of westward expansion answering guided questions and completing a graphic organizer.
3) As they examine the sources students will practice corroboration.
4) Students will then get into groups to "edit" the textbook definition of Manifest Destiny using their new information.
5) Exit Card: Students will create their own version of the American Progress painting to exhibit their learning.
***Includes a GOOGLE and Traditional version for your use!
