Description

Students will review what they learned throughout United States History as well as their map and research skills by going on a time travel treasure hunt throughout American History. There are 50 questions and each answer is an event, battle, an era, president, location, landmark, Supreme Court Case, treaty, state, amendment, person, or year. Three questions have students identify which locations/events correspond to 9 latitude and longitude coordinates. The questions span the 13 Colonies through the Cold War.

There are then 3 questions to determine when the treasure was buried and where it is located (one letter from some of the previous questions will give students the what they need to find the locations). They must identify the state and the location within that state to "find the treasure." They will then creatively, but plausibly, describe how they could retrieve the "treasure" from said location. Lastly, students will draw or describe what the treasure is that they have uncovered.

Time permitting, a map is included with 3 tasks for students to complete. The answers are included and if your students have access to research materials this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--In which city and state can the Liberty Bell be found?
--What “shiny and valuable” historical event do Alaska and California have in common?
--Which land acquisition is President Polk associated with?
--During which era was the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire?
--What document, and related to which event, connected Germany, America, and Mexico during WW1?
--Who signed off on a “Folly” in which state during Andrew Johnson’s presidency?
--What anti-communism “fear” happened in the 1920s and the 1950s?
--Which president served 2 non-consecutive terms?
--What year was Marbury v. Madison?
--What year did the Truman Doctrine go into effect?
--Who was the first American to orbit Earth?
