Description
This editable PowerPoint assignment is designed refine effective public speaking skills as students explain the philosophical, political, and artistic trends that fueled the creativity of Romantic artists. Students compile a collection of an artist’s work and use an automatic timer to project them while they give a verbal presentation explaining how elements of Romanticism are reflected in the work. Students are required to work without a script.
The grading rubric includes components that are format, delivery, analysis, and content based. Depending on the number of students, and whether research is done at home or in class, the required class time ranges from around 3 days (1 introductory and 2 for delivery) to two weeks. The concepts outlined in this assignment are emphasized by the lesson’s author, Shawneen Morrison. However, they can be easily augmented in the student handout to encompass any additional themes you emphasize in your analysis of Romanticism.
This lesson is appropriate for a wide variety of social studies curricula including World History, Art History, Western Civilization, or Humanities.
The lesson is easily converted to a Keynote assignment in schools utilizing iPads.
