Description
TEKS:
7.9(A) solve problems involving the volume of rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, rectangular pyramids, and triangular pyramids
7.9(D) solve problems involving the lateral and total surface area of a rectangular prism, rectangular pyramid, triangular prism, and triangular pyramid by determining the area of the shape’s net
8.7(A) solve problems involving the volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres
8.7(B) use previous knowledge of surface area to make connections to the formulas for lateral and total surface area and determine solutions for problems involving rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, and cylinders

This is a fun project for your students to be creative and demonstrate their knowledge of volume and surface area. The file contains:
Overview of project that tells you a little about everything it will contain.
Math calculation sheet for students to keep track of each shape and their math work.
The last breaks down the project into parts. Each part contains directions, expectations, and a grading rubric.
I always make copies of everything for my students and give them the rubrics to keep track of the expectations and how I will grade them. I remind them they will need to turn in the project on the day of their presentation. I give daily grades for how they work in class on the project and each section that comes with a rubric is a test grade.
This project can be done in groups or each student on their own. I also like to invite others, such as principals, other teachers, counselor,... to come on presentation day. We do votes on special awards that I like to get simple prizes for. The extra is up to you. You are welcome to tweak the project however you need to fit your class.
