 This packet contains everything your students will need to complete a document based activity on the Atrocities Committed during WWII: Holocaust & Rape of Nanking. Your students will examine primary source documents and photographs to gain new understandings of these events and will see these events through the words of the victims and perpetrators involved. After completing this activity your students will have a deeper understanding of the Holocaust and the lesser known, Rape of Nanking and will be able to identify discrepancies in the eyewitness accounts of these events. In this activity your students will: (all materials included)

1) Examine 10 photographs that depict the Holocaust and the Rape of Nanking; and will complete a photo analysis worksheet that will guide understanding.

2) Read and analyze 13 primary source excerpts, (eyewitness accounts) and complete a chart recording new understandings and discrepancies in these accounts.

3) Watch a video on the internet (public access) on the Holocaust and complete a video guide while viewing (this part of the lesson is optional but included)

4) An Assessment/Homework Activity that requires students to synthesize their new understandings gained from this lesson.
