3rd, 4th, and 5th Perimeter and Area Practice and Review

This perimeter and area practice and review activity is great to use with your 3rd, 4th, or 5th graders at the end of your unit of study, as a refresher, or even for test prep. This unique approach to finding the perimeter and area of irregular shapes for upper elementary students will be enjoyable for your kids, because they'll be using their creations to practice their skills.

This will tell you exactly what you need to do for easy teacher prep, then it will take you step by step through 2 different ideas for lesson plans.

-a QR code page

This page will link you and your students right to some fun instructional videos to review area and perimeter. 

-3 different levels of the activity

Each of the 3 levels (9 pages total) includes:

"Creating" page

This page allows kids to get creative as they color and/ or create their own picture on graph paper with carefully outlined directions.

"Finding the Area and Perimeter" page

Each of these pages is carefully scaffolded to match the "Creating" page, so your students can feel successful as they find the perimeter and area of their picture.

"Showing the Area" page

These pages are also carefully scaffolded to go with each "Creating" page. Students will use careful planning as they find the area of their shape using equations, instead of counting, one section at a time.
