Addition and Subtraction of Fractions and Mixed Numbers with Unlike Denominators

Presented on each worksheet is a secret of a toon character. As students solve the fraction problems, they will use problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to help them eliminate toon characters and uncover the secret.

These worksheets are perfect for partner work.

Uncovering the secret of a toon character:

• Each student will need 2 pages: A toon character page and the fraction/clue worksheet
• For each question on a worksheet, students solve the two fraction/mixed number problems and cross out the two boxes containing the simplified answers. The remaining box contains the correct clue to eliminate one or more of the toons on the toon worksheet.
• At the bottom of the fraction worksheet, there are blank lines that will reveal the final clue to the secret.
• The last toon remaining is the toon with the secret.
• For added fun, students can collect a toon card once they uncover the secret. (optional)

Included: All materials come in color and black/white.
