Alexander the Great the Battle of Gaugamela Primary Source Analysis Activity

Students will read and analyze a primary source on Alexander the Great defeating King Darius and the Persians at the Battle of Gaugamela by answering 16 questions and completing a creative task. The answers are included and this would be great for a sub!  

Sample questions include:
--Who is Arrian and why is his account of this battle considered accurate?
--Why did Darius order the front of his left wing to move to the right of the Macedonians?
--Summarize the 4th paragraph once from the Persian point of view and once from the Macedonian point of view. Try not to use more than 2 sentences for each summary.
--Could “general terror smote Darius” be considered the turning point of the battle, why or why not?
--Identify the different ways this battle can be classified as a win for the Macedonians.
