Description

AP History Essay Reflection Form - Print & Digital - Google Drive

Updated to reflect the 2023 rubric updates

Studies have shown that students do not retain and improve their essay writing skills by simply reading the "feedback" that the teacher gives. Therefore, in addition to having individual conferences with my AP students to improve their writing skills, I have created an essay reflection sheet for them to fill out after they receive scores on each essay they write.

This reflection is intended for students to read their teacher's feedback before figuring out ways to implement changes to improve their overall essay writing scores positively. Even if students got the point right in an essay, they are still encouraged to reflect on why they got that portion right (to ensure they do not lose the skill for future essays or make their writing even stronger).

This resource comes as a Google Drive resource. When you download this resource, you will see the terms of use and printing notes. On the printing notes page, you will have a link to the Google Drive folder. You will need to make a copy of the materials if you would like to edit them. All of these instructions, including a step-by-step visual guide on how to use this resource, is included in the Terms of Use. If you would like to print the resource material, select the print version of this resource, go to "File," "Download," and "PDF" to save the resource as a PDF and print! A PDF is also provided for your convenience.

How this reflection sheet works:

  1. Students review the feedback and comments the teacher has given on their latest essay
  2. Students look at the rubric on the reflection sheet. If they did not get the point for something (for example, thesis statement), they need to review why they did not get it and things to fix/ consider for future essays.
  3. Students answer 3 general reflection questions at the end:
    1. One thing they did well
    2. Two areas to improve upon
    3. One goal for their next essay

What's included in this product?
