Description

Cards Against History (A Game of Historical Genius!) Who can use this product? Although I originally created this game for Advanced Placement Government classes, I quickly realized that I could revise it to other Advanced Placement courses.

This game is intended for AP World History courses. I have used it with various levels of World History classes. Once you receive the term cards, you can easily select which vocabulary terms you want to use. In fact, this game can be used at the beginning, middle or end of a unit/course. What makes this game an effective way to learn/apply concepts? It builds on academic language into becoming functional language! Academic knowledge of core content is often one of the hardest things to have students successfully apply in our classrooms. Mastery of language and syntactic features allows students’ full participation in academics by enabling them to put ideas together in a wide range of ways. Mastery includes learning language patterns to communicate relationships between ideas: to explain, describe, compare, and contrast, summarize, generalize, express, cause-and-effect relationships, sequences, and so on.

By using a type of “sentence-framing” strategies students engage in successful adaption higher-order thinking necessary to master academic language. Plus...it's a fun way for students of all levels to learn and practice academic language.

Great resource for review, my kids had fun and we were able to add our own cards, modify rules for different gameplay, etc.
