Description
Students will read and analyze excerpts from Neville Chamberlain and Winston Churchill on appeasement after the Munich Conference by answering 32 questions (whether or not Britain should have pursued a policy of appeasement with Germany). They will also analyze 2 political cartoons and complete an extension task. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.
Sample questions include:
--What would it take for Chamberlain to agree to go to war?
--Summarize the advice Chamberlain gives at the end of his 1938 address.
--How does he justify his advice to the Czechs?
--Write a contextually appropriate synonym, or definition, for “unmitigated.”
--Explain the role the League of Nations could have played in these events.
--Who does Churchill hold responsible for the current situation and why?
--What was Chamberlain’s most convincing point and why? What was his weakest point and why?
--If you were a reporter in 1938/1939, what are 3 questions you would have asked each, Chamberlain and Churchill, after listening to them deliver their speeches?
