Description
Art of the Americas Contextualization Escape Room - AP Art History
Grab students' attention with this fun, engaging, and informative escape room focusing on contextualization for art of the Americas (including indigenous Americans and colonial Americas)! This escape room features five missions for students to complete, along with notes for students to fill out as they attempt to escape.
Escape Room Premise: You and your team are volunteering at a science lab run by a mad scientist, Dr. Chronos Timewinder, who is currently testing out his new time machine. Excited about what time travel could mean for understanding the past, he has asked you, his trusty group of art historians, to be his first test subjects to see if it works. Dr. Chronos Timewinder has given you a specific set of questions and tasks to answer during your journey and study of the past.
Excited, you and your team successfully enter inside and travel back to the indigenous Americas. However, you quickly notice upon arrival that the time machine has broken. The only way to get back to the future is to complete the questions and tasks given. Knowing you only have enough food and supplies to last you a day, returning to the present is of paramount importance to your team. Best of luck!
This escape room features a variety of activities, including videos, crossword puzzles, multiple-choice questions, and pig-pen codes to crack. What's more, there are positive reinforcement messages throughout! When a student answers a question correctly, a summary recap of the correct answers is provided to reinforce their learning.
Have you ever attempted to teach an escape room, only to find the directions confusing? Perhaps you didn't realize how many different stations you had to print, and as a result, you forgot to print a crucial piece of the puzzle that students needed to complete the escape room. I know my teacher friends and I have at one point or another. Let's stop that cycle of confusion with a self-grading Google Form. Students cannot proceed to the next station without first obtaining the correct answer and inputting it into the Google form. This means no station printing for you! (All you need to print are the student notes for students to write on as they complete the escape room.)
The information in this escape room relates to the content material in the AP Art History Course and Exam Description, meaning that these stations are not just for "fun" but correlate to learning within the course. It is recommended that students complete this escape room BEFORE learning about art of the Americas.
