Description

These five engaging get-to-know-you activities will help your students alleviate some of their first-day or first-week jitters. Students will also have a fun time finding out what they have in common with their classmates. Minimal preparation is required to set up these activities.

This resource is designed for students to meet all their classmates. Each student is assigned a group number (1 - 6). All members of a group stay together throughout the five activities. However, each group will team up with another group, resulting in three larger groups for each activity.

The students do not have to complete the 5 activities in one day. You may wish to have the students do 3 activities in the morning and 2 activities in the afternoon, or 3 activities one day and 2 activities another day, etc.

5 Get-to-know-you activities (Activities 3, 4, and 5 come in color and black & white.)

1) Guess Who…?

  • 2 slips of paper per student - 8 total questions for students to answer
  • Students take turns picking slips of paper that contain information about their classmates. They have one guess to figure out who it belongs to in their group. This activity makes students feel special because everyone in the group is focusing on their information.

2) Repeat After Me – No materials are needed.

  • Students have fun repeating fun facts about their classmates.

3) Have you ever …? (18 questions included)

  • Students pick a question and respond by holding up an “I have” sign or an “I have never” sign. Each question allows students to talk and get to know each other.

4) Let’s Roll and Get to Know Each Other

  • Students practice multiplication facts and answer questions about themselves.

5) The Dream

  • Students are given a story (The Dream) with blank lines. The students substitute information about themselves into the blanks throughout the story (similar to a Mad Lib). Students will have a great time sharing their silly stories with their classmates. 14 questions for students to answer.

Also Included:

  • Grouping schedule – A list of assigned groups for each activity.

*You will need a few additional supplies for the activities.

  • 6 dice (6-sided) and 3 paper bags
