Description

We developed the phrase:

"Fail to Edit, Lose the Credit"

as we found that our children were not focused upon developing their learning once it had been committed to paper. They were losing elements in the criteria due to missing simple things like capital letters, full stops, commas for lists, spelling errors, other missing punctuation, or more specific elements of structure.

We displayed this phrase - first on large sheets of paper - and discussed with the children what it meant. We set age appropriate targets through various grades, linked to what the children needed to have in their writing. These targets were displayed around the posters - meaning that the whole school were learning the phrase - but class teachers were making the phrase their own based on the targets they were putting around the sign.

As the phrase became embedded, we developed simple bookmarks for the children to have in their books - reminding them to edit their writing, but we also expanded this to math, topic and history. We wanted the same skills to be edited, improved and embedded within our classes and within all subject areas. Each child also took a book mark home to remind them of the expectations in their home learning activities.

Then we got creative and produced flags/bunting to place around our learning environments. We still refer to these, and the children know the rhyme.

We have produced these resources in simple black and white. This allows you to simply download and print onto white, or colored paper. We found that teachers chose the color to match their own classroom - and because we have not used colors, it became simple for the teachers to make the resources their own.

We hope that you find this phrase useful for enhancing the outcomes of your children, and find the products support making your learning environment even more exciting, stimulating and supportive of learning.
