Wonder Women of STEM

This is a fun way to encourage individual research as well as collaboration among your class. Each student is given a piece of the poster, which they will color on and eventually piece together with the rest of their classmates. Each piece of paper has research questions that they will use to find out information about these "Wonder Women." The teacher will assign each student one of the "Wonder Women" to research and briefly present for the class. Your students will be introduced to a number of INCREDIBLE Women who have made an enormous impact in the STEM field.

There is individual work and whole class discussions that take place and that's one of many reasons why I love these collaborative posters and projects. I love assignments that allow my students to be creative, they have a specific task to complete, they can have, and. meaningful conversations with classmates.

This file comes with instructions and two posters, a large poster for whole class and a smaller poster for smaller groups, plus a single page that students can color.

*March is National Women's History Month and this is a project that I use throughout the month to introduce my students to "Wonder Women" in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

Veterans Day

Veterans Day is an important holiday for the United States. It is a time that we can honor those men and women who have served and are currently serving in the United States armed forces. Your students will have fun coloring, collaborating, and discussing their thoughts Veterans Day. It is always interesting to hear the responses from the students when they answer the writing prompt "Why should we honor the men and women who serve and who have served our country?" The personal stories that come out are always interesting.

When your students enter the room they are each given a piece of the poster, which they will color on and eventually piece together with the rest of their classmates. Each piece of the poster has two different writing prompts. It is up to you how you want to use them. Sometimes I use both and other times I just use one.

Anytime we do these poster in class, my students get excited. They love to color and be able to express themselves artistically and I love the writing portion of the poster. Each hour when my students walk into the room they enjoy reading what the other classes have written. It is a very engaging piece of artwork that you can keep up all year long and reference frequently!

*Final Poster is 5x5, however there are extra pieces of the poster that can be printed off and placed around the border for classes that are larger than 25.

Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison had a "Growth Mindset" and this collaborative poster and writing prompt assignment is a great way for your students to begin thinking in that manner as well. Each student is given a piece of the poster, which they will color on and eventually piece together with the rest of their classmates. Each piece of the poster has several different writing prompts that they can choose and write about in addition to coloring their piece of the poster.

There is also an individual assignment students can do. The file contains a worksheet with several different writing prompts about how to respond to different failures that we encounter. Anytime we do these poster in class, my students get excited. They love to color and be able to express themselves artistically and I love the writing portion of the poster. Each hour when my students walk into the room they enjoy reading what the other classes have written. It is a very engaging piece of artwork that you can keep up all year long and reference frequently!

This file comes with instructions and 2 poster options. There is one large poster with writing prompts and one regular sheet of paper with questions on the back. Each page comes with instructions and specifics on how to color certain parts.

This is a great assignment for anytime of the year. You can use it at the beginning of the year to encourage the "Growth Mindset" from the start, at the middle of the year as a motivational tool, or at the end of the year as a way to reflect on what has taken place. Harry S. Truman Atomic Bomb

This is a fun way to encourage individual research as well as collaboration among your class. Each student is given a piece of the poster, which they will color on and eventually piece together with the rest of their classmates. Each piece of the poster has a brief summary of the decision to drop the Atomic Bombs by President Harry S. Truman. This decision is still debated today and this project is a great way to get your students talking. Depending on the class, sometimes I will assign a specific side for my students. I try and make it even so we can make sure to have solid discussions and students can see different sides of issues.

This file comes with instructions and three poster options. There are two large posters , one with a writing prompt and one without. There is also a smaller two page poster for partners to use. In this project, the students are given the task of convincing their partner that President Truman is a Hero or a Villain. Each page comes with instructions and specifics on how to color certain parts.

It is a great culminating project for lessons over WWII.

The Gettysburg Address

The Gettysburg Address is one of the United States most famous speeches. Help your students research and rewrite the document in their words while working individually, in small groups, or as an entire class.

The whole class poster is a great way to culminate a lesson over the famous speech. It can be completed in one class day with very little prep!

Anne Frank

"I still believe in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart." This famous line from Anne Frank's Diary speaks volumes about her belief in people, but what do your students think. Do they agree with what she said? This project allows them to create and engage in deep and meaningful conversations about humanity. This is a great culminating project to any lesson that deals with Anne Frank. My students absolutely love these posters and I do too! There is so much student to student interaction that takes place within this project.

Andrew Jackson

"Was Andrew Jackson a Hero or a Villain?" is the question your students are going write about and discuss with their classmates in this collaborative poster project. Each student is given a piece of the puzzle with a writing prompt that they complete to show an understanding of the topic. Next, they are given the opportunity to be creative and color their page however they like! My students absolutely love doing these! The task is very simple, but it brings out an enormous amount of student-to-student interaction. When students begin to put their puzzle together they are explaining why they believe Jackson is a Hero or a Villain.

There is individual work and whole class discussions that take place and that's why this is one of my favorite lessons we do in our class. I love assignments that allow my students to be creative, they have a specific task to complete, they can have, and. meaningful conversations with classmates.

First Amendment

The First Amendment is an integral part of the Bill of Rights and is mentioned almost everyday in some form or fashion. It guarantees us some of our most basic freedoms and your students will have fun coloring, collaborating, and discussing their thoughts on the amendment.

Hispanic Heritage Heroes and Hispanic Heritage Month

 

This file includes two collaborative posters. The first reads "Hispanic Heritage Month" and is a great addition to a classroom to celebrate September 15-October 15. It can be a time of remembrance of or introduction to important Hispanic Leaders and figures throughout the world. The second poster reads "Hispanic Heritage Heroes" and it can be used at any time during the school year!

When your students enter the room they are each given a piece of the poster, which they will color on and eventually piece together with the rest of their classmates. Your students will begin questioning who is on their piece of the poster and naturally want to learn more about him or her which can provide a jumping off point for discussions and other projects surrounding this month

The "Kindness Begins With Me" collaborative poster is a great addition to a classroom at the beginning of the year. It can help your students to focus on an important quality of every classroom.

November is Native American Heritage Month and this is a great way to introduce your students to a number of different Native Americans that have impacted the United States and the world. It can be a time of remembrance of or introduction to important Native American Leaders.

Your students will begin questioning who is on their piece of the poster and naturally want to learn more about him or her which can provide a jumping off point for discussions and other projects surrounding this month.
