Description
Created by Shawneen Morrison. This is an amusing list of home remedies that were commonly used in the U.S. Colonies prior to the American Revolution. It should be noted that medical treatment was strongly discouraged in some colonies because of the conservative religious belief (especially Puritan) that ailments were a punishment from God. In that case, treatment or symptomatic relief were interpreted as defiance of God's will. This is the origin of the Puritan directive to "Urge No Healths."
