Description

In this lesson, we move beyond Spanish and Portuguese colonization and examine the French and the Dutch colonization and compare their treatment of Native people to the other Europeans that came to the New World

Bellwork: Why did the Europeans explore the new world? What were their reasons for exploring? What were they in search of? What countries explored and created settlements in the Americas?

Directions:

In-School: Read your assigned passage and fill in your part of the graphic organizer. Then, your teacher will give you two other students to meet with and you will give each other the information you were responsible for. Remember: you are becoming an expert on your assigned settlement, and you will have to teach that information to your classmates!

At Home: Read the following passages and fill in the graphic organizer.

Exit Ticket: Write a letter to a relative in Europe from the point of view of an early French or Dutch settler in North America. Describe what life is like and what your goals are in North America.
