Cross of Gold Primary Source Analysis

Students read excerpts from William Jennings Bryan's Cross of Gold Speech, answer 16 questions, and complete one creative task. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate. 

Sample questions include:
--Why did the money question and the finalization of the Populists’ platform result in a change in leadership?
--Provide an example from the historical context supporting Bryan’s claim regarding business interests in the 3rd paragraph.
--Why was Bryan against such life tenure in office?
--What role was played by the international community in the Populists’ anti-gold standard, and pro-bimetallism argument?
--Summarize Bryan’s explanation of why the currency issue is more significant to Populists than the tariff issue.
--Identify how Bryan illustrates the strength and confidence behind the case for bimetallism.
