CVC Bingo Game

This CVC Bingo Game is a creative and innovative approach in learning consonant vowel consonant words that will help students to embark in a fun and interactive journey of phonemic awareness. Its a great tool for assessing how students decode and understanding the concept of phonemes. One of the most important aspect of the game is the vibrant playful colors and large font which makes it easy for visually impaired children to read.

What is it? This was an exciting game to create for little learners. Basically, this consonant vowel consonant bingo game is made to enrich the language skills for beginning readers.

Who is it for? This is made for lower elementary students who will be learning how to decode initial, middle, and final sounds of CVC words.

How to play it? CVC Bingo can be played in a whole group, small group, or individually. In a whole classroom setting, teachers will roll the letter dice. They can choose to roll as many dice they want at a time. Once the dice is rolled, students will look for the letter called out on their bingo card. If the letter matches, they will mark the letter and continue listening in for more letters. During this process, students will determine if a word has been covered on their card. If so, bingo is called out and students will proceed until all words on their card is covered. A corresponding picture can be placed next to the bingo card for each word. After calling out bingo, students will be instructed to read each word on their bingo card and show the pictures each word represents.

How to set it up? Once downloaded, cut-out the bingo cards, picture cards, and dice. Distribute bingo cards to each student. Picture cards are placed in the center while teacher rolls a dice of their choice or numerous dice at once.

How to use it? This is a great activity that can be incorporated into the literacy center for learning how to read CVC words and recognizing pictures that corresponds. When played independently or in pairs, rolling the dice can be exciting cause you’ll never know which letter you will land on. The picture dice are meant to be used as a mark off; to indicate that students have found a particular word on the bingo card. Sounding out each letter is the process of decoding the word. Words are located horizontally, vertically, and diagonal. Each bingo card consists of one vowel in the center; which makes up the main component of the game. Players will begin to notice that every word on the board contains the same vowel. This is all part of recognizing that words changes when you replace them with different letters. It is important for them to see the word combinations. That is the main point of the game and it is why I felt that this game goes to a whole new level of learning CVC words. It’s not just a matter of reading it, but understanding the foundation of creating words.

What is included?

25 CVC Bingo Cards

40 CVC Picture Cards

5 Cut-outs of Alphabet Dice

Why is it a great activity? The letters on the bingo cards and alphabet dice are bold, colorful, and bubbly; which makes it easy for visually impaired students to read. The picture cards are designed to complement the words on the bingo cards. This is not only a fun and enriching activity, but it is an interactive way of having fun with CVC words and understanding the concept of phonological awareness.
