Description
Have students create their own 'Declarations of Independence' with this fun letter activity!
The Declaration of Independence is essentially a break up letter between Britain and the colonies. What better way for students to understand the contents of this historic document than to write their own versions? Students will be instructed to choose a school appropriate topic they want out of their lives. Then they will create a declaration that explains why they are separating themselves from the subject of their letter, as well as the grievances they have with their subject. This activity is so much fun and my students love sharing their letters at the end. And most importantly, it helps in their understand the Declaration of Independence.
