Description

if you have looked through my resources before, you know that I love doing holiday themed activities. Personally, I am always amazed how the science of medicine can always be connected to just about anything in our culture and world.

I have done a few of these holiday character case studies, so I thought it was only fitting to create one for the Thanksgiving/Fall/Holiday season. This case study is on Tom Goblour and it looks at what conditions and issues he might have if a turkey became humanized. The case study incorporates math, anatomy, medical terminology, nutrition, measurements and reading charts because I believe those are skills that are universal among the healthcare industry.
Topics include:
  • Dermatology (students will investigate a large lump on the patient's nose to determine the etiology as well as sagging skin under his neck. They must also research medical specialties to determine who to send him to for removal)
  • Musculoskeletal/Body Mechanics (students will research FHP-forward head posture and determine the angle of the patient's spine, how much load it's placing on his cervical spine as well as exercises for correction)
  • Cardiovascular/Vitals (students will determine the patent's cholesterol categories and relate it to their diet)
  • Nutrition (students will analyze the patient's food diary and make a connection to his health issues)
  • Includes muscle diagrams, calculations, medical terminology and much more!
The download comes with the following:
  • 5 Page Case Study Handout for Students with resource page (Printable PDF or link to a Google Slide)
  • Answer Key for Instructor
  • Written Instructions
  • More detailed Video Instructions
*No prior knowledge is required but students will need access to do internet research as well as colored pencils, markers or highlighters for color coding.
