Description
If you have looked through my resources before, you know that I love doing holiday themed activities. Personally, I am always amazed how the science of medicine can always be connected to just about anything in our culture and world.
I have done a few of these holiday character case studies, so I thought it was only fitting to create one for the Easter/Spring season. This case study is on Ester Wabbett and it looks at what conditions and issues she might have if a rabbit became humanized. So, you will find content on hearing, dentistry, musculoskeletal and diet included in this one. I always like to incorporate math, anatomy and reading charts because I believe those are skills that are universal among the healthcare industry.
Topics include:
- Audiology (students will interpret a hearing test and then apply math and chart reading to answer questions about the results)
- Dentistry (students will look at a dental X-ray to discover if the patient has macrodontia)
- Musculoskeletal (the patient has injured her knee as the "long-jumper" of her school's track and field team and students will determine the diagnosis)
- Nutrition (students will analyze the patient's food diary and calculate calories, protein and sugar and then make suggestions on healthy options)
- At the end of the lesson, students will be asked to find 3 "Easter eggs" hidden in the case study where they will connect the patient with characteristics of rabbits
The download comes with the following:
