Sentence diagraming. Identifying parts of speech. Noun functions. The power of punctuation. Primarily designed for those grades that have a writing EOC or State Assessment, we feel that this collection of grammar-focused bell work will serve you and your student-scholars, whether you are teaching 5th grade, or 8th grade. Many of the bell work assignments act as mini-lessons, while all support your lessons in grammar. They are presented in both PowerPoint presentation (editable to a degree) and PDF (non-editable) versions for those teachers and schools or districts without projector capabilities.
I have always been responsible for teaching both the reading and writing sides of ELA to my 7th and 8th grade students, and, other than my student teaching days, I have never had the luxury of block scheduling. This is how I respond to the need to hit grammar standards, both CCSS and TEKS.
With this completed Bundle, you have six separate six-week sections, or units, to take your students through the year. The routine established in week 2 is followed for the entire school year. This allows your student-scholars to know what to expect, and be mentally prepared for the mission at hand. Mondays are new vocabulary days; Tuesdays are practice days for new information and review; Wednesdays are reserved for sentence diagramming; Thursdays are a return to vocabulary as students complete a Frayer model “sextant” which includes antonyms and synonyms; and Fridays are set aside for vocabulary quizzes which you design! (We will be creating quizzes at a later date!)
You should find that the use of sentence stems, full sentences, and simple, easy to follow instructions provide differentiation for your SPED and EL populations. I do encourage seating arrangements that allow for peer support as well. Slides are editable, so if you feel that your scholars are not ready for the sentences provided, you can change them, or remove animations if you need to.
This Bundle Includes Focus on Grammar Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, in 6 zipped files, containing:
- Over 260 pages of PDF Printable Bell Ringers for teachers without projection capabilities;
- 90+ pages of answer keys;
- Over 180 daily PPT slides;
- Frayer Model Sextant foldables;
- and, Extensive teacher notes for implementation.
