Description

Students will review the French Revolution with a pen-pal style writing assignment by writing a series of letters during the French Revolution to a pen-pal in America. The French citizen will either thank his pen pal in America for the revolutionary inspiration or condemn him for the trouble caused. The instructions detail the 15 items to be addressed across the letters.

This is best completed as a unit review assignment. You would be able to make this an individual, pair, or group assignment by dividing up the topics the students must cover in the letters. The rubric is included but the point values are blank to accommodate your own grading system.

Sample items to be addressed include:
--at least two internal French problems leading to the revolution
--the Declaration of Rights and Man
--what the slogan of the French Revolution means to you
--life under the Jacobins and the Reign of Terror
--compare and contrast the spectacle of a guillotine execution vs the patriot method of tar and feathering
