Perfect for Grades 6-12, but can be modified for all ages and grade levels.

Kick off the school year with this geography-focused beginning-of-the-year icebreaker. This student-centered activity will engage students and build connections with their new classmates, all the while practicing geography skills at the same time! This getting-to-know-you activity is fun and interactive and will get your student excited about your geography class. 

In “Mapping Me,” students mark places that matter to them — where they’re from, where their family is from, places they’ve visited, and where they hope to go. It’s the perfect blend of social-emotional learning, geography, and classroom community building.

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

• World map to a projected or large classroom map
• Song Lyrics for Introduction
• Printable postcards template: Print out on card stock or thicker paper as you will be hanging them on clothes line around the room.
• Needed: Markers/colored pencils and Other Art Supplies, Sticky Notes: To pin to the map with their name on it, Ipads or computers for light research.
• Needed: Clothes Line Twine & Clothes Pins: String it around the room. (If you choose not to purchase these items borrow thread or yarn, and use tape to hang them.) Push pins, stickers, or sticky dots
