Description

Students will read and analyze an account of the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr by answering 10 questions. They will then complete two creative activities, one being social media oriented, the other involves creating a memorial marker. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--What was the last straw between Hamilton and Burr which led to Burr finally calling for the duel?
--Why do you think the pistols were loaded in the presence of both men?
--Infer as to why Burr would not have wanted to be recognized.
--Define “countenance” and then explain the phrase “countenance of death” in your own words.
--What does Hamilton say about his pistol, and what does that imply his intentions were or were not about engaging in this duel?
