Description
This lesson, developed by Shawneen Morrison, provides a quick and effective overview of the major concepts of Hinduism.
The product includes a four-page, colorful overview handout on Hinduism that presents overarching concepts but also clearly depicts the tremendous diversity of Hindu beliefs and practices.
Then students are asked to use their knowledge of Hindu concepts to analyze a story from the Ramayana. Next, students work in pairs to explain three quotes from a revered Indian Guru. Finally, students compete in groups to identify the moral of a famous Hindu teaching fable. Links to an authentic printable game board (11x17) and instructions for the Hindu game Gyan Chaupar (Game of Knowledge also known as Chutes and Ladders in the West) are included as an extension activity.
This game board is a superior teaching resource to many simplified boards because it incorporates Hindu concepts like states of consciousness and planes of existence.
This lesson is fully editable so instructors can add or delete information to tailor the lesson for their classes.
