Description
Writing can be the toughest subject to teach -- no textbook, no pacing guide. Let me help you feel good about yourself as a writing teacher. This product includes 9 complete lessons that take your intermediate students through the process of writing a personal narrative, either on paper or typed on a device. They will end up with a well written story that is ready to share. The colorful Google Slides and interactive elements will engage them as they draft, revise, and edit their piece. Because each slide has an optional audio clip, you can literally let me take the lead in teaching this unit. Even better, the audio
allows students who need to make up a step due to absences an easy way to catch up independently. Each lesson allows students to learn from modeling and think alouds before they work on that step in their own story. The 9 steps presented include:
- Choosing a small event
- Outlining main ideas
- Hooking your reader
- Elaborating with details
- Zooming in with description
- Adding a little dialogue
- Including transitions
- Wrapping it up & naming it
- Revising & editing
This product includes:
- A complete unit that takes students from brainstorming to final draft
- 9 sets of Google Slides (Over 150 in total)
- Audio recordings embedded in each slide
- Mentor texts to model each step of the writing process
- Printable copies of each revised version with highlighted sections
- A planning sheet for exploring 4 types of hook beginnings
- A student checklist which can serve as a grading rubric
- A list of other topics for practice with personal narratives
- Suggestions for various ways to share completed stories
These Google Slides can be displayed for whole class lessons or assigned in Google Classroom. They can also be downloaded as PowerPoint presentations.
