Description
This listing features a one-of-a-kind cryptogram about igneous rocks in the field of earth science. A cryptogram is a type of puzzle with an encrypted text. In this cryptogram, students will decipher a number code to reveal the letters to form the summary statement text about igneous rock.
The header on every student page has a horizontal letter-number assignment table for reference. Students start the activity knowing the number assignments for nine letters. The entire message appears as a series of blank lines grouped into what will become words. Students will discover the number assignments for the remaining letters. The summative two-and-a-half page message covers the subclassifications, key characteristics, alternative names, and the respective formation processes of igneous rocks.
I assign this fun activity to my seventh-grade earth science students. It takes them approximately sixty minutes to complete. This activity could also be used as a fun reinforcement activity in a high school earth science course, too.
This document will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using Adobe Acrobat. It includes an answer key. Another bonus about this activity is the fact that it is SUPER EASY TO GRADE!
I also have cryptogram puzzles about metamorphic and sedimentary rock in my store.
